Apple seems to have been smitten by the ‘Pro’ bug off late. Or how else can one explain recent rumors of it working on a new high-end version of the iPhone 7 Plus tentatively named the iPhone Pro.
The said iPhone variant will have an advanced dual camera setup at the rear to justify its higher standing vis-a-vis the regular iPhone 7 Plus.
The latest LG flagship, the G5, launched just last week is the only other smartphone in recent memory to have a dual camera at the rear.
However, the above rumor is to be ingested with a generous amount of salt, coming as it does from the Chinese site MyDriver which itself doesn’t have any solid reputation of breaking news stories having enough credibility.
That said, this is not the first time we are getting to hear of a new iPhone 7 Plus variant with dual rear cameras. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo too had earlier hinted two iPhone 7 Plus variants being developed at Apple.
One of these will be the regular version with a single lens camera and the other high-end version with a unique dual-lens setup.
No matter how far-flung it might seem at the moment, Kuo has been firmly defending his prediction citing sources which he said has full knowledge of the bold new Apple initiative.
In any case, a parallel may be drawn with another Apple project with a similar nomenclature, the iPad Pro. That refers to the regular 9.7-inch iPad which Apple is believed to be providing a ‘Pro’ makeover to rebrand the tablet as a smaller iteration of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Whether the regular iPad like say an iPad Air 3 will exist is something that remains to be seen.
The said iPad will have all that has gone into the making of the bigger iPad Pro, including the same internals as well as a display optimized for the Apple Pencil. There is going to a smart keyboard cover as well, similar to the one that comes with the bigger iPad Pro.
Meanwhile, among the other important things rumored to be in the making at the Apple camp is a 4-inch iPhone variant, one that will be referred to as the iPhone SE.
Apple already has an event lined up on March 21st which should see the launch of 9.
7-inch iPad Pro and iPhone SE along with new colorful Apple Watch bands. Maybe we will get to have some more details of the alleged iPhone Pro as well soon.
