There have been whispers of exciting developments to come for Samsung’s foldable line-up this year. That includes the possibility of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 being added to the roster. These models are expected to come with some game-changing upgrades. For instance, there is talk of a waterdrop hinge that will allow the two sides of the phone to fold shut without leaving any gaps. There are also rumors of a significant increase in the size of the cover display for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, as previous models had only a small 1.1-inch screen. While the last two models had slightly larger 1.9-inch displays, the latest upgrade is set to make the cover screen even more user-friendly than before.
A recent leak about the outer display of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 came with concept images and a video from a leakster named SuperRoader, claiming that the design was “200000% real.” The leak showed a larger, uniquely shaped outer screen, and anonymous sources have confirmed that the concept was mostly accurate. A mockup based on the real design has been created and is available to view.
The outer display of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to have a significantly larger display area, providing more room to perform tasks without unfolding the phone. While the primary use case for the larger screen will likely be taking selfies with the rear cameras, it should also be more convenient for tasks such as checking notifications and responding to messages.

It remains to be seen if Samsung will allow users to run full apps on the cover display of the Z Flip 5, a feature that is already present on the Motorola RAZR. While the size of the display is still uncertain, sources suggest that it will be within the range of 3 to 4 inches, with a probability of being closer to the lower end of the range, based on the dimensions of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Regardless, the increased size of the outer display will certainly make taking selfies and handling notifications a lot more convenient.

At this moment, details about any changes to the main foldable display are scarce. While the rumored waterdrop hinge may help reduce the crease’s visibility, there is no concrete information to confirm this. Nevertheless, given Samsung’s reputation for innovation, we can expect to hear more about the Z Flip 5’s specs and features in the near future as rumors and leaks continue to surface online.
