With the futuristic iPhone X stealing all the limelight, it would be easy to miss out on the two other iPhone devices that too got released yesterday – the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. And both of them pack quite a punch, albeit of the conventional type. Which means is that there are sizeable bezels all round while the all too familiar home button too gets a live extension of sorts.
Now the iPhone 8 duo might be miles from its more illustrious iPhone X brethren, but there are a few common areas for both. So there is the same glass back to support wireless charging, A11 Bionic chip along with support for Augmented Reality.
Sporting the familiar screen sizes of 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus come with True Tone enabled Retina HD displays. So you will have more vibrant colors though the white balance is matched with the surrounding lighting to ensure the viewing experience is as natural as it can be.
The A11 Bionic chip is already being hailed as the smartest chip to ever power any mobile device. The chip featuring two performance cores and six efficiency cores is also the most powerful to ever power any iPhone so far while also offering class leading battery efficiency.
Also, with that much of processing power at its disposal, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus easily support AR, 3D gaming, and machine learning tech. In fact, the new gen iPhone device opens an entirely new segment where we are likely to see greater convergence of AI, AR in future applications, be it gaming or entertainment.
The new iPhones are also about superior camera performance, with the iPhone 8 featuring a 12-megapixel rear sensor while the iPhone 8 Plus comes with two 12 megapixels rear lens. Also, the camera hardware has been enhanced to allow for better photography in varying light conditions while there is also a new signal processor this time to make its debut with the current gen iPhones.
Also, it is the software that weaves the real magic, making exciting use of the cameras. For instance, the 8 Plus with its twin rear cam is now able to create a fairly accurate depth map on a portrait shot, and enabling the info to artificially alter color effects for the background or foreground images.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will begin right from September 15 and will be available from September 22. To be available in two storage options of 64 and 256 GB, prices for the iPhone 8 starts at $699 and iPhone 8 Plus at $799.
Apple Watch Series 3
The new Apple Watch Series 3 is all about its refurbished internals even though it sports the same exterior looks like Series 2 Apple Watch. And the biggest change here is the built-in LTE connectivity together with the faster processor and a new barometer feature. In essence, it means the Watch can function can independent of the iPhone, with Siri too now able to speak to you directly off the Watch itself.
Prices start at $399 for the cellular model while pre-order and shipping dates being the same, that is September 15 and September 22 respectively.
