Overview

Beckon Access pairs smartphone credentials with connected door and gate hardware, with access management and membership billing in one service. It is strongest for gyms and clubs that want entry, subscriptions and member communications managed together; organizations seeking access control alone may find the combined setup and recurring hardware costs harder to justify.

Its cloud portal, IoT devices and mobile app cover both everyday member entry and temporary visitor access. The service is headquartered in Graz, Austria, and Google Play’s developer disclosure says the app collects no data and shares none with third parties.

Key features

Entry and visitor management

Members open nearby doors and gates in real time with a tap in the app. Online signup and activation links by email or SMS reduce the steps needed to pair a phone. Temporary accounts, external-partner access and day passes—including passes that do not require the app—make the system more practical for guests and contractors. Membership validation, scheduled access rules and multi-location access support ongoing operations, though the software’s per-member license and hardware are separate costs.

Operations and reliability

Beckon devices support WiFi or 4G/LTE, and LTE hardware includes a SIM card. The devices are designed to operate independently of local infrastructure, with online and offline operation, failsafe mode, heartbeat monitoring, over-the-air updates and automatic fault detection. These capabilities are relevant when a site needs access to keep functioning through a local connection problem; they do not remove the need to budget for device connectivity.

Billing, messaging and integrations

The platform combines subscriptions with scheduled activation and deactivation, SEPA direct debit and automatic handling of returned payments. Operators can send push notifications, emails, SMS and newsletters, and can require confirmation before entry to a zone. A REST management API with real-time webhooks and a Magicline connector give teams integration routes beyond the portal. Setup, training and ongoing support are included; installation is coordinated by video call with a local electrician or locksmith.

Pricing

Beckon is paid, with a free plan and pricing from €0.05/mo. There is no free trial. The published charges span software, hardware, connectivity and optional club administration, so the monthly user license is only one part of the operating cost.

Club management Add-on: 99.00 EUR per month, billed monthly. It covers memberships, contracts, user accounting, SEPA direct debit and online payments. It fits operators who need billing and membership administration alongside access; teams that do not need those functions can avoid this add-on.
Software user license: 40005.00 EUR per month, billed net per member/month on a tiered basis. There is no minimum purchase, and the quantity can be adjusted monthly. The member-based structure lets operators scale licenses with their active base, but the per-member charge can add up as membership grows.
Beckon hardware Gen 7 WiFi: 99900.00 EUR once, plus € 10,00 / month connectivity. One device is required per entrance, so multi-door sites need to account for multiple units.
Beckon hardware Gen 7 LTE: 99900.00 EUR once, plus € 20,00 / month connectivity. It also requires one device per entrance, with a SIM included; its higher monthly connectivity charge buys LTE rather than WiFi connectivity.
Installation: 499.00 EUR once, plus a call-out charge. Installation is arranged with a local electrician or locksmith, an additional cost and coordination step for sites without an existing installer.

Platforms

Beckon supports Android, iOS, web and API access. The mobile apps serve users at entrances, while the web portal and API suit operators and teams integrating access management into their stack.

Who it's for

Beckon is a good fit for gyms, golf clubs and similar membership businesses that want to connect entry permissions with subscriptions, payment collection and member communication. Temporary passes and partner accounts also suit sites that regularly admit visitors or outside service providers. It is less compelling for teams that only need door control, have no use for membership billing, or want to avoid per-entrance hardware and connectivity charges.

Pros and cons

Pro: access and membership administration share one system. Subscriptions, validation, scheduled status changes and SEPA collection can be managed alongside entry rules.
Pro: guest access does not always require an app. Day passes and temporary accounts accommodate visitors and external partners.
Pro: connectivity and monitoring options suit unattended entrances. LTE, offline operation, failsafe mode and fault monitoring address common operational concerns.
Con: costs extend beyond the user license. Hardware is charged per entrance, connectivity recurs monthly, and installation includes a call-out charge.
Con: the combined feature set may be unnecessary for access-only buyers. The club management add-on is a separate monthly charge, and billing capabilities may not matter to organizations without memberships.

Alternatives

Gym Access Control Software is the relevant category roundup for readers comparing gym-focused options. Choose Seam if a freemium, API-oriented access platform is a better fit: its Unit Access plan is 5.00 USD per month and includes five actions per device per day, priority email support, full API access, webhooks and supported-brand coverage.

Sentry Interactive is another paid option for teams comparing access platforms. Consider Kisi instead if a paid security platform with an SMB-focused dashboard is a closer match; its One Security Platform plan starts at 99.00 USD per month, with hardware and add-ons potentially required. KisiFit is worth comparing for a location-priced gym setup: its Base plan starts at 99.00 USD per month per location and covers up to two locations and one door, with more doors addable.

re:membr Access Control is another paid access-control option. For buyers comparing paid systems with mobile and web platforms, Avigilon Alta Access offers Basic and Premium tiers with API and webhooks, alerts, reports, rules and support features. Brivo Security Suite is another paid alternative with monthly subscription plans, including a Standard tier with one-year data retention and five Brivo Mobile Passes. GymAxess may suit gyms preferring license pricing by door or location: its Door License is 10.00 EUR per month and Location License is 50.00 EUR per month.

Verdict

Choose Beckon Access when a membership business wants smartphone entry tied directly to member billing, scheduled access and guest passes, with API integration available for the rest of its stack. Its main advantage is bringing those workflows together; its main drawback is the layered cost of member licenses, per-entrance devices, connectivity and installation. Buyers who need access control without the membership tools should compare simpler or differently priced alternatives.
