Overview

Start with a YouTube link or upload an MP4 or MOV, then let Choppity analyze the transcript for promising moments. It is designed to handle hour-long content in minutes, pairing automatic clip selection with an editor for refining the result. That combination is useful when a team needs a repeatable way to repurpose long recordings, rather than a fully automated publishing system across multiple social platforms.

Key features

Transcript-based editing makes spoken words the control surface: users can trim or remove sections by editing text, then add images or b-roll. This can make dialogue-heavy material faster to refine than editing solely against a timeline. AI highlight detection, keyword search, and active-speaker detection help narrow a long recording to candidate clips, while automatic profanity censoring addresses one common cleanup task.

Choppity describes its animated captions as 97%+ accurate and automatically reframes clips for vertical formats. Those features target the time-consuming work of adapting a recording for social viewing, though the stated caption accuracy still leaves room for review. Social presets and brand templates support a more consistent output; the number of templates and accounts depends on the plan.

The versioned API supports clip-generation and social workflows, uploads up to 5 GB, and webhooks. That makes Choppity relevant beyond a standalone editing app, especially for teams connecting clip workflows to their own software. Direct publishing currently supports YouTube; other platform integrations are rolling out progressively. The scheduler uses OAuth-style authorization where supported and does not store connected-platform passwords as plain passwords. Uploaded content is processed privately and is not published through Choppity unless the user directs publication or distribution.

Pricing

Choppity is freemium. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes one seat, one hour of AI video analysis, 2GB of cloud storage, three-day project storage, and chat support. It is a limited way to try the workflow, not a comfortable archive or recurring production tier: both analysis time and project retention are short.

Starter costs $20 /m monthly or $14 /m yearly. It keeps one seat and raises analysis to three hours, storage to 40GB, and project retention to 30 days; it also includes 1080p HD exports and one social account. This is the entry paid tier for a solo creator who can work within a modest monthly analysis allowance.

Creator costs $32 /m monthly or $22.4 /m yearly. For one seat, it offers five hours of analysis, 100GB storage, forever project storage, three social accounts, one brand template, and API access. It is the more relevant choice for a solo operator who needs an integration or longer-lived projects; the added retention and API access distinguish it more than seat capacity.

Team costs $48 /m monthly or $33.6 /m yearly and adds unlimited seats, 200GB storage, forever project storage, ten social accounts, five brand templates, and a shared workspace. Analysis remains five hours, the same as Creator, so teams should weigh the collaboration and account capacity against that fixed allowance. Enterprise has custom pricing and offers custom usage, unlimited social accounts and brand templates, advanced or custom user roles, usage reporting, and a contract/MSA.

Refund requests must be made within 14 days of payment for evaluation. The annual monthly rates are lower than the monthly-billed rates, so the commitment term matters when comparing tiers.

Platforms

Choppity is available on web and through an API. The API's 5 GB upload ceiling and webhooks support programmatic workflows, while the web app covers direct editing. It is not a broad direct-publishing hub yet: YouTube is the currently supported destination.

Who it's for

Choppity is aimed at creators and content-driven businesses, including podcasters, agencies, churches, ecommerce businesses, course creators, marketers, and coaches. It is strongest for teams turning recurring long-form recordings into short clips, particularly when transcript-based edits, captions, reframing, or API access matter. It is a weaker fit for groups that need multiple direct-publishing destinations today, or that need more analysis time than the plan allowance provides.

Pros and cons

Pros: Transcript-based trimming and removal can speed up dialogue edits; highlight detection, keyword search, and speaker detection help locate clips; vertical reframing and animated captions reduce format-preparation work.
Pros: A versioned API, webhooks, and uploads up to 5 GB suit teams building clip workflows into other software.
Cons: Free access is capped at one hour of analysis and three-day project storage, limiting both experimentation and retention.
Cons: Direct publishing currently reaches YouTube only, which leaves teams using other social destinations with a less integrated workflow.
Cons: Team doubles available seats and adds workspace features, but its five-hour analysis allowance does not exceed Creator's.

Alternatives

For a side-by-side category search, see AI Video Repurposing Tools, Podcast Clip Makers, and AI Video Editing Software.

Exemplary AI is worth considering if self-hosted access matters; its free plan includes 60 upload minutes per month, one user, 14-day data retention, and 20 content generations. Headliner may suit users who want Android or iOS access and a free plan with unlimited video clips and captioned clips, plus one unwatermarked audiogram per month. OpusClip offers a free plan with 60 monthly credits and clips up to 1080p, but includes a watermark, no editing, and exports that stop being available after three days.

Spikes Studio is an alternative with a free tier for demo clips, auto-captions, a basic editor, and up to 30 minutes of video content per month, with 720p exports and a watermark. Vizard offers a free plan with 60 credits monthly and one social account, but caps uploads at 60 minutes and 1GB, exports at 720p and 10 minutes, and storage at three days. Wisecut has an always-free 30-minute monthly tier with no watermark, but output is 480p, exports are limited to three minutes, and Autopilot and Social Hub are excluded.

OpenClip may fit users who can work within a free demo project, 10 runs per day, 200 MB inputs, and a 10-minute input limit, with watermarks on visual outputs. Pireel is another freemium option.

Verdict

Choose Choppity if you regularly convert long recordings into social clips and want transcript-led editing, vertical reframing, and an API in the same workflow. The Creator plan is the most compelling solo tier when API access and permanent project storage matter; Team makes more sense when shared work and account capacity outweigh its unchanged five-hour analysis allowance. Look elsewhere if direct publishing beyond YouTube is central, or if the plan's analysis quota is too restrictive for your volume.
