Overview

Freshmarketer is a marketing automation platform for sales and marketing teams coordinating customer outreach and sales follow-up. It suits teams that need multiple channels and audience segmentation alongside native CRM connections. Its breadth is a strength, but lean teams should weigh the Free plan’s tight contact and send caps, and the possibility of account suspension after a trial.

Key features

Freshmarketer supports email, SMS, WhatsApp, live chat, social campaigns, and messaging through Apple Message for Business, Google Business Messages, LINE, Instagram direct messages, and Facebook Messenger. Teams can automate email, SMS, WhatsApp, transactional email, chatbots, chat campaigns, and real-time customer journeys. That range can bring coordinated outreach into one marketing workflow; businesses that only need basic email campaigns may find the platform broader than necessary. Chatbot sessions last up to 24 hours, which constrains conversations that need to remain open longer.

Lead capture forms, lead scoring, and native CRM integrations help connect marketing activity to sales follow-up. Segmentation covers marketing contacts, Shopify and WooCommerce audiences, anonymous visitors, and Facebook and Instagram audiences. AI features include campaign assistance, lead scoring, segmentation, chatbots, and insights, although the breadth of those features does not remove the need to check whether a given workflow fits a team's requirements.

Reporting combines e-commerce dashboards with email and SMS metrics, revenue attribution, A/B testing, heatmaps, and session replay. Freshmarketer lists API access, Shopify, Segment, Zapier, WooCommerce, and more than 1,000 Freshworks Marketplace apps, giving teams several routes to connect it with their stack. Freshworks also offers dedicated onboarding to migrate contacts, campaigns, and historical data from an existing marketing-automation or CRM platform.

Freshworks says its servers are protected by 24-hour surveillance and receive current security patches. Its Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 27701:2019, PCI DSS v4.0.0, and other compliance materials. Those are relevant signals for evaluation, but teams should confirm that the controls meet their own requirements.

Pricing

Freshmarketer has a Free plan and a 21-day trial. Accounts are suspended if users do not select a plan after the trial expires, so a team evaluating it should decide on a plan before the trial ends rather than assume continued access.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Free	Free	100 marketing contacts and 500 monthly email sends.
Enterprise	15.00 USD per month, billed annually	Everything in Free plus 500 marketing contacts, an AI-powered campaign assistant, transactional emails, Facebook and Instagram custom audiences, advanced segmentation, and advanced webhooks.

The Free plan is a practical starting point for a small team validating its campaign workflow, but 100 contacts and 500 monthly sends leave little room for a growing audience or frequent email. Enterprise starts at $15 per month, billed annually; the jump to 500 contacts and its advanced features better fits an emerging or established business, though teams should check whether that contact allowance suits their list. Add-ons include marketing contacts from $100 per 5,000 contacts per month, conversion-rate optimization from $219 per 10,000 MUV per month, a dedicated IP at $199 per account per month, Freddy AI Agent at $49 per 100 sessions, and Messaging Agent at $79 per agent per month. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and qualifying USD checks are accepted.

Platforms

Freshmarketer is available on web and offers API access. That combination suits teams integrating marketing workflows into a web-based stack; no mobile platform is included in its platform listing.

Who it's for

Freshmarketer is strongest for sales and marketing teams that need customer journeys, segmentation, lead tools, and multichannel engagement connected to CRM workflows. Its reporting and e-commerce segmentation can also serve teams selling through Shopify or WooCommerce. It is a weaker fit for businesses that need only a simple newsletter sender or have contact volumes that make its plan caps and add-ons unattractive.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad messaging support and automation let teams coordinate more than email campaigns.
Pros: Native CRM integrations, lead scoring, and capture forms support marketing-to-sales handoffs.
Pros: Reporting includes revenue attribution, A/B testing, heatmaps, and session replay, useful for evaluating campaign and site performance.
Cons: Free is capped at 100 contacts and 500 monthly email sends, limiting its usefulness as a list grows.
Cons: Trial expiry suspends accounts without a plan selection, creating a continuity risk during evaluation.
Cons: Contact expansion and other add-ons carry separate charges, which can increase the cost beyond the annual starting price.

Alternatives

Compare marketing automation software if you want to evaluate a broader set of platforms. GetResponse is another freemium option with a free plan, free trial, and Android and iOS apps as well as web and API access. Mautic offers a free plan, free trial, and self-hosted deployment, making it an alternative to consider when self-hosting matters. SAS Customer Intelligence 360 is a paid option with Android and iOS support. Systeme.io has a free plan with 2,000 contacts, three sales funnels, one course, one blog, and one custom domain, and no free trial. Cordial is a paid alternative with custom enterprise pricing. CleverTap is paid, has no free plan, and offers a 30-day trial. Ometria is another paid option. Manago AI is paid and offers a free trial.

Verdict

Choose Freshmarketer if your sales and marketing teams need multichannel automation, audience segmentation, and lead workflows tied to CRM. Its strongest case is the breadth of campaigns and reporting in one platform; look elsewhere if your list is likely to outgrow the contact allowances, you need an uncapped free starting point, or trial-expiry suspension would disrupt your evaluation.
