Overview

Ginger combines grammar and spelling correction with punctuation checks, sentence rephrasing, proofreading, essay checking, and translation. Its grammar and writing enhancements cover English, with UK and American English options; translation is a separate Premium capability covering more than 40 languages. That distinction matters for multilingual teams: Ginger can translate across languages, but it is not a general multilingual grammar checker.

Text is sent to Ginger’s correction servers and returned corrected. Ginger says it does not store text or transfer it to third parties, and says it follows GDPR principles including data minimization and storage limitation. The service requires a stable internet connection, so it is a poor fit for offline editing or workflows that cannot send text to a correction service.

Key features

Correction and rephrasing

Grammar, spelling, and punctuation checks address common editing needs, while rephrasing offers alternatives for sentence wording. Personal Trainer, online proofreading, and essay checking extend the toolset for learners and writers who need more than a basic spell check. Premium provides unlimited corrections and rephrasing; the free version covers essential functions with limitations, making it more suitable for occasional use than sustained editing.

Integrations and API

On Windows, Ginger integrates with Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Chrome and Edge extensions work on services including Gmail, Google Docs, Facebook, and LinkedIn, which helps users correct text where they write rather than moving it into a separate editor. Businesses, institutions, and organizations with high-volume text-processing needs can use the API for full-document proofreading and integration with LMS, CRM, and internal systems. The API can also be installed on customers’ own servers, a meaningful option for teams that need local deployment.

Ginger says its support team aims to respond within 48 hours. That is a stated response target, not a substitute for immediate support in time-sensitive workflows.

Pricing

Ginger is freemium, with a free plan offering essential functions subject to limitations. There is no free trial. Premium plans add unlimited correction and rephrasing, translation in 40+ languages, and, in some descriptions, unlimited synonyms. Ginger also describes a synonyms dictionary and text reader as Premium benefits.

Monthly: 7.99 USD per month, automatically renewed monthly; includes unlimited grammar checks, rephrasing, synonyms, and translation to 40+ languages.
Annual: 4.99 USD per year, billed as one payment of $59.88; includes the same listed unlimited tools.
Two Years: 5.99 USD per year, billed as one payment of $143.76; includes the same listed unlimited tools.
Premium Monthly: 13.00 USD per month, billed every month; includes unlimited enhanced rephrase, full-sentence corrections, and translation in 40+ languages.
Premium Quarterly: 9.99 USD per month, billed on a quarterly plan; includes those same listed Premium features.
Premium Annual: 7.50 USD per year, with annual billing; includes those same listed Premium features.
Premium 2 years: 6.00 USD per year, on a two-year plan; includes those same listed Premium features.

The cheapest listed annual commitment is Annual at 4.99 USD per year, while the two-year options require a larger upfront commitment. Monthly billing costs more than those longer-term rates but avoids a multi-year term. The separate plan names and prices make it important to compare the billing terms and included feature wording before choosing.

For organizations needing API access, pricing is custom. The consumer plan prices do not establish API costs or terms.

Platforms

Ginger is available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, and through browser extensions and an API; self-hosted deployment is also supported for the API. Desktop, mobile, and browser availability gives individuals flexibility across devices, while the API and local deployment address organizational integrations. All correction still depends on internet connectivity.

Who it's for

Ginger is a sensible choice for English-language writers who want corrections and rephrasing in the same workflow, especially students, professionals, and non-native speakers. Its browser extensions and Windows Office integrations suit people who write across common web and office tools. Teams processing large volumes of text can consider the API, particularly when full-document proofreading or local installation matters. Writers needing correction in several languages, or people who must edit offline, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro — Several writing tasks in one service: Grammar, spelling, punctuation, rephrasing, proofreading, essay checking, and translation cover more than basic correction.
Pro — Practical integration options: Windows Office apps, Chrome and Edge extensions, and an API can bring Ginger into existing writing environments.
Pro — Local API deployment: Organizations can install the API on their own servers rather than relying only on hosted deployment.
Con — Correction is English-focused: UK and American English are supported, but multilingual grammar enhancement is outside its scope.
Con — Online connection required: Editing and correction stop being an option when a stable connection is unavailable.
Con — Free use is limited: The free tier has restrictions, and there is no trial period for evaluating Premium before paying.

Alternatives

Browse Grammar checkers or AI Grammar Checkers to compare options. Consider Sapling if its API, extension, self-hosted, web, and Windows platforms better match your setup. Trinka is another freemium option with API, extension, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows availability. Choose TextGears if you want its PRO plan, priced at 2.48 USD per month, with unlimited checks, translations, and long-text paraphrases. Outwrite offers a free tier with spelling and grammar, a thesaurus, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, browser extensions, and a web app. LanguageTool is an alternative to consider. Grammarly is a freemium alternative with Android and iOS apps and a Pro plan priced at 12.00 USD per month. ProWritingAid is another option for writers. Microsoft Editor is another alternative to consider.

Verdict

Choose Ginger if you want English-focused correction, rephrasing, and translation in a service that spans browser, desktop, and mobile use, or need an API for high-volume proofreading. Its combination of integrations and local API deployment is its strongest reason to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if you need multilingual grammar correction, offline editing, or a trial before committing to a paid plan.
