Overview

rekordbox is DJ software for managing music, preparing tracks and performing across desktop and mobile. It suits DJs who want their library and performance workflow to span devices, especially those who use Dropbox for cloud storage. Its strongest case is breadth across preparation and performance; the trade-offs are recurring plan costs for expanded cloud features and a security notice that makes careful updating and network hygiene important.

Key features

Cloud Library Sync uploads tracks and playlists to Dropbox for access across devices, while Cloud Analysis is described as cutting analysis time by up to 35%. Together, these features can streamline preparation for DJs who move between setups, though cloud capacity and synced-device limits depend on the plan.

Stems separation splits tracks into vocals, drums, bass and instrumental parts for separate playback. The mobile apps also combine track management and performance features, including the option to DJ on a phone or tablet. Compatible controllers connect to those apps by USB or Bluetooth, which gives mobile users a route to hardware control rather than limiting them to touch operation.

rekordbox supports four decks, DVS and video mixing. Its partner directory includes Beatport, TuneMyMusic, DJ.Studio, PTDJA, pointblank and FaderPro. AlphaTheta has reported a PRO DJ LINK vulnerability that could expose data on connected Windows or Mac computers and USB/SD cards to someone with unauthorized network access. It recommends updating rekordbox and using secure, password-protected Wi-Fi.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and covers basic music management and DJ features. It allows 1,000 cloud tracks with owner registration or Hardware Unlock, and one synced device. That makes it a sensible starting point, but the track and device caps constrain a growing library or multi-device workflow.

Core costs 12.00 USD per month, billed at $12 USD/month or $120 USD/year. It permits installation on three computers per license and up to three synced devices with Cloud Option. It is the lower-cost paid step for DJs who need more sync capacity, but it does not include Dropbox storage in the plan terms described for Creative and Professional.

Creative costs 18.00 USD per month, billed at $18 USD/month or $180 USD/year. It covers four computers, up to four synced devices and Cloud Option with 1TB Dropbox. This is the more suitable tier for a larger device setup that needs included cloud storage.

Professional costs 36.00 USD per month, billed at $36 USD/month or $360 USD/year. It allows eight computers, up to eight synced devices and includes 5TB Dropbox. The capacity is aimed at individuals or teams managing music at greater scale; for a single-device beginner, the extra allowance is unlikely to justify the higher recurring price.

Platforms

rekordbox runs on Windows and macOS, with apps for Android and iOS. Desktop and mobile coverage suits DJs who prepare on a computer and want to manage tracks or perform from a phone or tablet. The maker offers 24/7 support through an inquiry form and does not accept telephone inquiries.

Who it's for

The Free plan is positioned for people starting music management or trying DJing. DJs who rely on cross-device access can move to a paid tier based on computer count, synced devices and Dropbox capacity. Professional is the clearest fit for individuals or teams with larger music-management needs; those who want only a free, single-device setup can begin without a subscription.

Pros and cons

Pros: Library sync, track analysis, stems and performance features cover several parts of a DJ workflow in one product.
Pros: Mobile apps support performance and track management, with compatible controllers connecting over USB or Bluetooth.
Pros: Free access includes basic DJ features, while paid tiers scale from three to eight computers and include Dropbox storage at Creative and Professional levels.
Cons: Free access is capped at 1,000 cloud tracks and one synced device, limiting multi-device use.
Cons: Dropbox capacity and larger sync allowances require higher recurring plans, with Professional costing 36.00 USD per month.
Cons: The PRO DJ LINK vulnerability notice calls for updating the software and protecting Wi-Fi access to reduce exposure risk.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see DJ Software and Audio Mixing Software.

VirtualDJ is another freemium option across Android, iOS, macOS and Windows; its free plan is for nonprofessional use without professional equipment, so it may suit someone seeking that narrower free-use path.

ClubDJ Pro offers a free online mixer without video mixing, MIDI support or an account requirement, making it an option for users who prioritize a browser-based free mixer.

Cross DJ has a free app with optional premium features across Android, iOS and macOS, for users who prefer that platform mix.

DJ ProMixer is a Windows-only free option, though its Lite plan limits MIDI/HID device use and recording to 10 minutes and restricts complex audio configuration.

djay offers a free download with core mixing features across Android, iOS, macOS and Windows; its optional PRO subscription unlocks advanced features.

DJUCED provides a free Standard plan for use with a Hercules controller, including four decks, MIDI control, streaming, recording, Ableton Link and Rekordbox XML import.

future.dj pro has a free lifetime plan for non-commercial or home use, with two decks and limits on controller sessions and audio effects.

Mixxx is a free full-version option for Linux, macOS and Windows, with no official paid or pro version.

Verdict

Choose rekordbox if you want one workflow for library management, analysis and performance across desktop and mobile, with cloud sync that can scale to substantial Dropbox storage. Its free tier is a practical entry point, but device and track caps make it less compelling for established multi-device setups unless the paid cloud capacity earns its recurring cost. Look elsewhere if you need a completely free full version, a different platform mix or a more limited home-use option.
