Overview

Pinako is a browser tab and session organizer for people who want to keep research, workspaces and reference material together rather than just save tabs for later. Its nested trees, libraries and notes give it more scope than a basic session manager, while AI search and desktop-client connections make it a better fit for users comfortable with a cloud-assisted workflow.

Its strongest case is for Chromium users who need structured collections they can revisit or share. Browser compatibility and the handling of context sent to AI Search are important trade-offs to weigh before committing.

Key features

Nested tab trees and libraries

Pinako organizes tabs and sessions in nested trees and can restore closed tabs and windows to their previous positions. Tab search, session restore, tab suspension and workspaces address the daily work of keeping many active tasks manageable. Libraries extend that organization to collections of tabs, windows and notes, with sharing and collaborative workspaces for teams. This breadth suits people who want research and project context grouped together; those who only need a lightweight way to save a few tabs may not need the extra structure.

Notes, AI and connections

Rich-text notes are available, and Pro+ adds resizable image, video and audio embeds stored in Pinako cloud. Natural-language AI Search, an AI Librarian chat panel and an MCP bridge connect the tab collection to desktop AI workflows. Pinako names Claude, Codex, Cursor and Antigravity among AI-client examples, and Notion, Google Sheets, Slack and Obsidian among connected apps. AI Search sends the query and relevant context to xAI's Grok API; the AI Bridge runs locally on the user's computer. That distinction matters for teams deciding what information can leave their devices.

Backups, imports and privacy

The free extension stores data locally and supports local snapshots. Optional backup destinations include Google Drive, Dropbox, Filecoin, Arweave and Storj, giving users several ways to preserve collections. Imports from Session Buddy, Toby, Workona, Tabs Outliner, BrainTool, Link Map, TabXpert and OneTab may help people move an existing setup. Pinako says it does not sell data, read page contents or use stored data to train AI models; cloud data is stored with row-level security and transmitted over HTTPS.

Pricing

Pinako is freemium, with a free plan and a 14-day trial. New subscribers can try the monthly Pro and Pro+ plans for 14 days without a payment method.

Free: 0.00 USD per free. Includes the extension, local backups, rich-text notes, and tab and bookmark trees. It is suited to local-first organization, but does not include the paid plans' stated sync, sharing and AI Search features.
Pro: 5.00 USD per month, billed $5/month billed monthly or $4.16/month billed annually. It includes 200 AI credits/month, sync, sharing, AI search and snapshot search. This is the practical step up for individuals who need cross-device access or search beyond their saved trees.
Pro+: 10.00 USD per month, billed $10/month billed monthly or $8.33/month billed annually. It raises the allowance to 400 AI credits/month and adds collaboration, multimedia storage and blockchain backups. It fits users who want richer notes and shared collections.
Premium: 25.00 USD per month, billed $25/month billed monthly or $20.83/month billed annually. With 1,000 AI credits/month and expanded collaboration, AI and media storage limits, it is aimed at heavier collaborative use.
Enterprise: 60.00 USD per month, billed $60/month billed monthly or $50.00/month billed annually. It provides 2,400 AI credits/month, large collaboration teams, bulk packages and SLA-backed support for organizations with those requirements.

The listed AI credit quotas distinguish the paid tiers, but do not indicate how quickly a particular workflow will consume them. The free plan remains useful for local organization, while collaboration, cloud sync and AI search require moving up.

Platforms

Pinako is listed for Linux, web and Windows, with cross-device sync among its capabilities. The Chrome extension works in Chromium-based browsers; WebKit-based browsers such as Orion are not supported yet. The AI Bridge requires the Pinako Chrome extension and is offered for Windows 10/11 and Linux x64 or ARM64, so browser compatibility is a real prerequisite rather than a minor caveat.

Who it's for

Pinako is best suited to researchers, builders and teams who keep substantial browser context, want to group it into shareable libraries, and can benefit from notes or AI-client connections. Local storage and optional backups also make it relevant to people who want control over where saved collections go. It is a weaker fit for users on unsupported browsers, or for those who prefer not to send search context to an external AI API.

Pros and cons

Pros: Nested trees, session restoration and workspaces make large sets of browser activity easier to structure and recover.
Pros: Libraries bring tabs, windows and notes into shareable collections, with collaborative workspaces for teams.
Pros: Local snapshots, optional third-party backups and a broad import list support both data preservation and migration.
Cons: AI Search sends queries and relevant context to xAI's Grok API, which may not suit sensitive research or stricter data policies.
Cons: WebKit browsers such as Orion are not supported yet, limiting the choice of browser for users who want the extension.
Cons: Multimedia embeds require Pro+, and sync, sharing and AI search require a paid plan, so the free tier is primarily for local organization.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison, see Tab Management Software.

Tabblar is worth considering when broad platform coverage across mobile, desktop and extension environments matters more than Pinako's libraries, notes and AI connections; its free Basic plan offers unlimited tabs, five workspaces, one group and tab search.
tabExtend may suit users who want a simpler save-and-return workflow across web and mobile, with a free option capped at 30 saves and no account needed.
Tabmanager.io is an alternative for extension users focused on managing windows and sessions, with session history and a free plan.
Toby may fit users who want saved-tab collections across web, mobile and extension platforms; its Starter plan includes up to 60 saved tabs and unlimited members.
Workona is worth comparing when a team-oriented spaces workflow is the priority, though its free plan is for individuals and limits spaces and sections without free team or organization accounts.
Tablerone is a free, donation-funded option for readers who prefer a free tool.
Raft is another free option.
Sidebery is another free option.

Verdict

Choose Pinako if you want a structured home for tabs, sessions and notes, especially when shareable libraries and AI-client workflows are useful to your work. Its main advantage is bringing those pieces together, with local storage and optional backups for saved data. Look elsewhere if Chromium compatibility is a blocker or if sending search context to Grok does not fit your privacy requirements.
