Overview

Taiga is an open-source project management tool for teams organizing work with Scrum or Kanban. It is a strong fit for developers, designers, and other cross-functional teams that want configurable agile workflows and the option to self-host. Choose it for its range of planning and issue-management tools; look elsewhere if time tracking or generous cloud storage is essential.

Key features

Taiga accommodates both sprint-based and continuous workflows. Scrum teams get backlog and sprint planning, estimates, sprint task boards, and burn-down charts. Kanban boards support workflow customization, swim lanes, filters, search, epics, subtasks, and work-in-progress limits. That breadth makes Taiga useful for teams with established agile routines, while the absence of time tracking leaves work-hour records to another tool or process.

Issue and bug tracking includes customizable types, priorities, and severities, giving teams a structured way to handle work beyond the sprint backlog. Dashboards, timelines, notifications, a wiki, and custom real-time reports with CSV links bring project context and status into the same workspace.

Five built-in integrations cover Slack, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Gogs, with community integrations alongside them. A public REST API and outgoing webhooks for sprint, user story, task, issue, and wiki-page events offer teams a route to connect other workflows. Importers for Trello, Jira, GitHub, and Asana, plus project transfers between Taiga instances, can ease migration.

Teams can install Taiga on-premise and customize the installation, which suits organizations that want project data on their own servers. For cloud use, Taiga says data is transmitted over SSL, saved in off-site backups, and system access is restricted by least privilege. Its infrastructure is hosted and managed by AITIRE CLOUD at the INTERXION MAD3 datacenter in Madrid, Spain.

Pricing

Taiga is freemium. The free tiers impose tight project and storage limits, not user caps, so a small team can evaluate the workflow without restricting membership. For a growing cloud portfolio, storage and project counts are the more likely reasons to move up.

Free: 0.00 USD per free; one public project, one private project, 10MB storage, and unlimited users.
Gratis: 0.00 EUR per free; one public project, one private project, up to 10MB storage, unlimited users, and community support.
Enthusiast: 5.00 EUR per month, or 50€ when billed annually; five public and five private projects, up to 100MB storage, unlimited users, and community support. It raises the project caps but still provides little room for stored files.
Basic: 20.00 EUR per month, or 200€ when billed annually; unlimited projects, up to 500MB storage, unlimited users, and basic support. This suits teams that need room to expand their project portfolio, though the storage ceiling remains modest.
Premium: 60.00 EUR per month, or 600€ when billed annually; unlimited projects, up to 3GB storage, unlimited users, and premium support. It offers the most storage among the listed plans and is the cloud choice for teams that need premium support.
Taiga Private Cloud: custom pricing for a dedicated hosted instance with 8GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 100GB SSD storage, unlimited projects and users, and managed installation and updates.
On premise: custom pricing; includes priority support with an SLA, use behind a firewall or VPN, unlimited projects and users, installation support, and managed updates and maintenance.

Platforms

Taiga is available on the web and through its API, with self-hosting as an option. This gives teams a choice between cloud access and running an installation themselves; teams that require time tracking will still need a separate solution.

Who it's for

Taiga is best suited to cross-functional teams that already work in Scrum or Kanban and want customizable boards, issue tracking, reporting, and an API in one project tool. It is especially compelling for organizations that value open-source software and need control over hosting. Teams with substantial file storage needs should compare cloud tiers carefully, while teams that need built-in time tracking should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Scrum and Kanban are both supported, so teams can use sprint planning or configurable flow-based boards without splitting those workflows across products.
Pro: The public API, event webhooks, and five built-in integrations provide several ways to connect Taiga to existing tools.
Pro: Self-hosting supports teams that want data on their own servers or installation customization.
Con: Free cloud use is capped at two projects and 10MB storage, limiting its usefulness for teams with multiple active projects or many files.
Con: Even the listed Basic plan caps storage at 500MB; the larger 3GB Premium tier costs 60.00 EUR per month.
Con: Taiga has no time tracking, so teams that need work-hour records must add another tool or process.

Alternatives

Verdict

Taiga is a good choice for agile teams that want configurable Scrum and Kanban workflows, open-source flexibility, and the option to keep the software on their own infrastructure. Its main trade-offs are the free cloud tier’s severe storage and project limits and the lack of time tracking. Choose it when workflow control and hosting choice matter more than integrated time records; look elsewhere if those limits would push your team into a higher-cost tier or a second tool.
