Android 6.0 Marshmallow could be released on October 5 for Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, according one of Canada's leading Telecom carrier Telus.
According to Bell, one of Canada’s largest telecoms carrier, the Google Nexus 5 by LG and the Google Nexus 6 by Motorola will start getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow update starting October 5.
On its official ‘Software Update Schedule’ page, the telecom carrier listed the release of the upcoming Marshmallow update for two earlier gen Nexus smartphones. As soon as media reports started citing Telus’ update schedule, the carrier immediately updated its page removing the mention for Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Though, Mobilesyrup managed to get a screenshot of the list of devices posted by the Canadian carrier.
Google hasn’t yet made any official announcements regarding the Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout, though the company might announce something in this regard at its event in San Francisco on September 29.
Some of the new features introduced with Android Marshmallow include revamped app permissions, Google Now on Tap feature, Android Pay, fingerprint APIs for developers, along with battery saving features called Doze. Other new additions include a new memory manager, adoptable storage devices, new app drawer, along with support for USB Type-C ports.
In the past, we’ve seen Google releases the next Android update for previous gen Nexus devices almost a month after it launches new Nexus devices, hence Telus’s post implies that Google this time around will be speeding up its rollout cycle.
Google is certainly expected to announce two of its Nexus smartphones at its upcoming event in San Francisco – named Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. Both these devices were recently leaked in slew of press renders. These images show the LG branding at the back of the Nexus 5X, just like the original Nexus 5. A fingerprint scanner can also be seen at the back panel, featuring a circular design. Other rumored specs include a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset, while the device is expected to get 32GB and 64GB variants.
While the Huawei made Nexus 6P is expected to get a 5.7-inch QHD display. It’ll be the new flagship for Google, which will be offered in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB versions.
