In a surprise announcement, BioWare has revealed that the next installment in the beloved Dragon Age franchise, previously known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, will now be titled Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This change comes with a promise of a first look at gameplay footage on June 11th, 2024.
A Shift in Focus
The decision to change the title reflects a shift in focus from the game’s antagonist, the Dread Wolf, to the player character and their companions. In a blog post, BioWare General Manager Gary McKay explained that The Veilguard better encapsulates the essence of the game, which centers on the relationships and choices of the player and their party.
The Veilguard: A Name with Meaning
The new title, The Veilguard, evokes a sense of protection and guardianship, hinting at the player’s role in defending Thedas from the looming threats. It also aligns with the series’ tradition of incorporating thematic elements into the game titles, such as Origins, Inquisition, and now, The Veilguard.
Gameplay Reveal: A Glimpse into Thedas
The upcoming gameplay reveal promises to offer a deeper look into the world of Thedas, its characters, and the challenges they will face. Fans can expect to see over 15 minutes of footage from the game’s opening moments, showcasing the new combat system, character interactions, and the overall tone of the game.
