To cover or remix a song with AI, start with audio and voice you have permission to use, separate the parts you need, create the new vocal or arrangement, then review the result and the tool terms before sharing it. A practical workflow is to use LALAL.AI for stems, a cover tool such as FineShare Singify or TwoShot for vocal conversion, and your audio editor for the final balance. No tool’s features or subscription alone establishes that you have permission to publish a cover.
Choose The Workflow Before Uploading
Decide whether you want to keep the original arrangement and change the singer, or make a broader remix. For a voice swap, preserve the original song’s timing and backing where possible. For a remix, separate the source into stems and decide which parts to keep, replace, or mute. These are different musical goals: a vocal conversion changes the voice performance, while a remix can change the balance and arrangement.
- Voice swap: Prepare the vocal or song input and use a cover tool whose listed features fit vocal conversion.
- Remix: Separate vocals and instruments, then build a new balance from the parts you intend to use.
- New accompaniment: If you generate replacement music, describe the musical qualities you want rather than asking a tool to reproduce a specific recording. Check whether the chosen tool supports the controls you need.
Match A Tool To Each Job
| Tool | Supported role | Rights or practical limit to check |
|---|---|---|
| LALAL.AI | Separate vocals and instruments, with previews and selectable neural networks. | The free Starter plan offers previews but not full result downloads. Confirm the current plan and terms before relying on a download workflow. |
| FineShare Singify | Generate a vocal cover with voice choices and solo, duet, or chorus modes; pitch and key controls are listed. | Uploads are limited to 20 minutes and 30 MB, and commercial use is restricted under the service terms. |
| TwoShot AI Cover Generator | Cover workflow that lists stem separation, voice cloning, remixing, and preservation of melody, timing, phrasing, and lyrics during revoicing. | Commercial rights apply to paid-plan outputs; copyright licensing may still be needed for published covers, and real-artist imitation can raise likeness-rights concerns. |
| Kits AI | Vocal conversion and production, including separation, blending, and mastering. | Artist-model outputs may need approval for commercial release; check the applicable model and plan terms. |
Make A Rights-Aware Cover Or Remix
- Write down what you control. Identify the song, recording, vocal, and any voice model you plan to use. Get consent for a real person’s voice and confirm that you have permission for the song and recording in the way you intend to use them. Each service has its own terms; read them before uploading and before releasing or monetizing the result.
- Choose a clean source. Use an audio file you are allowed to process. Avoid treating a URL import or an AI tool’s ability to accept a file as proof that you may use it. For a remix, decide whether you need the vocal, instrumental, drums, bass, or other listed stem categories.
- Separate only what the arrangement needs. With LALAL.AI, preview the separation and listen for vocal bleed, clipped consonants, or instrument remnants before building around a stem. If you need a full file download, check the current plan because its free Starter plan does not include full result downloads.
- Choose the cover approach. For a direct revoice, use FineShare Singify’s listed pitch and key controls and select a solo, duet, or chorus mode that fits the arrangement. For a workflow centered on preserving melody, timing, phrasing, and lyrics during revoicing, TwoShot lists those capabilities. Follow the vendor’s current upload and model instructions; do not assume every model is available for every use.
- Give a precise musical direction. Describe the performance you want in terms that are yours: for example, “Keep the lyric timing; use a restrained lead vocal, a close harmony only on the final refrain, and leave space between phrases.” For a remix, a direction such as “Keep the lead vocal and bass; make the drums lighter and leave the instrumental break open” makes the intended edits clear. These are creative briefs, not claims that every tool accepts text prompts or can apply each instruction automatically. Check the selected tool’s documented controls.
- Build and audition the mix. Place the converted vocal against the backing or selected stems and listen through the whole song, especially entrances, sustained notes, and transitions. Lower or replace parts that compete with the words. If you use Kits AI, its listed separation, blending, and mastering features may fit this stage; verify which controls are included in your plan.
- Export and keep a record. Save the source files you are entitled to use, your edits, and the applicable permissions and model or platform terms. Check the export format and usage rights on the vendor’s site before you choose a plan or distribute the file.
Check Before You Share
Listen for recognizable voice likeness, unintended artifacts, and source material that remained in the mix. Get consent for a voice you do not own or control, and check both the voice model’s terms and the platform’s terms for your intended use. Tool capabilities do not themselves grant rights to a song, recording, or person’s voice.
Spotify announced on September 25, 2025 that vocal impersonation is allowed on its service only when the impersonated artist has authorized it; it also described AI disclosures in credits and measures against spam uploads and duplicates. In August 2026, it announced an “AI Persona” badge for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person. These are Spotify-specific policies and labels, not permission to use a song or voice elsewhere.
